Property is still relatively affordable although prices have increased in recent years especially in the most popular areas. The demand for Spanish property has fuelled a construction boom and foreign buters are still creating a demand. Seafront villas and apartments are always in demand and command the highest prices. Walking distance to the beach, a swimming pool, and proximity to shops, restaurants and other facilities are the main criteria sought by buyers and renters. However rural properties or fincas are becoming increasingly popular with foreign buyers.

The most popular areas include the Costa blanca, Costa del Sol, the Balearics, and the Canary Islands. More recently the Costa Brava, Costa Dorada, Costa Almeria, and Costa Calida have attracted much interest. The Valencia Region is considered by some to be the current property hot-spot, while the Teruel Region has some of the lowest property prices in Spain.
